A Field Manual of Acoustic Phonetics, Baart, Joan L. G. ISBN: 9781556712326
This book provides a practical and easy-to-understand introduction to acoustic speech analysis, primarily aimed at those involved in linguistic analysis and description in the field and at those preparing for such fieldwork. It explains commonly used methods for displaying aspects of a speech wave, such as waveform graphs, spectra, spectrograms, fundamental frequency graphs (pitch graphs), and intensity graphs. It illustrates how the results of acoustic analysis can be interpreted and used to improve the objectivity, accuracy and precision of phonetic descriptions of speech sounds. The book assumes basic knowledge of articulatory phonetics. It can be used to teach introductory courses in acoustic phonetics at the undergraduate level.

Analyzing Discourse: A Manual of Basic Concepts, Dooley, Robert A. ISBN: 9781556711152
Analyzing Discourse is an introduction to discourse analysis for linguistic field workers. It is practical, addressing issues commonly confronted by field linguists. Rather than applying a rigid theory or surveying a variety of approaches, it provides a methodology that has been refined over years of use. The material follows a functional and cognitive approach that seems to be a good approximation of how discourse is actually produced and understood. Since the aim of the manual is introductory rather than comprehensive, most chapters are relatively short, and the whole can be covered in fifteen classroom hours. References are provided for further reading on the topics discussed. The manual can be used individually or in group sessions, such as in a formal course or a linguistic seminar. In a group setting, concepts can be illustrated by examining further texts than those provided in the manual. Robert A. Dooley has a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. He has been involved in translation and the literacy team in the Brazilian Mbya Guarani language project. He also has served as Brazil SIL Linguistic Consultant and as Director of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session, from 1988 to 1993.

Fundamentals of English Grammar and Composition, Holley, E. Darrell ISBN: 9780892655809
The medieval alchemists were as interested in the discipline of psychological and spiritual transformation as they were in the transmutation of lead into gold. In fact, Jung's study of alchemical texts uncovered a symbolic language that expressed many of his own insights into psychological processes. Here, von Franz examines texts by the 16th-century alchemist Gerhard Dorn, to show the relationship between alchemy and analytical psychology.
